If you need soil, rubble or hardcore moved in the Deepings, you will struggle to find a more local option. BSH Recycling’s depot and waste transfer station sit just up the A15 in Bourne, about ten minutes away. We are a family business, started in Bourne in 2002, and the Deepings have been part of our patch from the beginning. Grab hire in Market Deeping is steady work for us, mostly driveways, extensions and garden projects, plus the building work that keeps ticking along around Deeping St James and Langtoft.
This is the question we get asked most, so here is the honest breakdown.
Inert waste is heavy and skips have limits. Our largest inert skip takes 8 tonnes, and you load it yourself, barrow by barrow. A grab lorry takes 16 tonnes and the hydraulic arm does the loading. So for anything over about 6 tonnes of muck, the grab usually costs less per tonne and saves you a day of labour.
Some real numbers help. Breaking out a typical double driveway produces somewhere between 10 and 20 tonnes of concrete and sub base. That is two or three skip loads, or one to two grab loads. A footing dig for a single storey extension often produces a similar amount of spoil. In both cases the grab is the cheaper and quicker route.
Below that sort of volume, a skip wins. And for mixed waste, timber, plastics and general rubbish, a skip is the only option because grabs take inert material only. One tip that saves money. Keep your muck pile separate from your general waste pile. Clean inert material is cheaper to tip than contaminated loads, and it lets us recycle nearly all of it.
Our grab lorries are 8-wheeled, 32 tonne vehicles with a 6 metre reach arm. Things to check:
Access. 11ft of clear width, no low branches or power lines. Most Deepings driveways and site entrances are fine.
Reach. The arm lifts over walls and fences up to about 10ft where the lorry can pull alongside. Material stacked behind your front wall is normally an easy lift.
Permits. None needed in most cases. The lorry loads and leaves, so unlike a road placed skip there is nothing left on the highway.
Payment. Card or BACS at the point of hire. We do not take cash on arrival.
Our operators are trained and certified, and because we are so close, they know the local streets and accesses well.
Your muck does not travel far. Everything we grab in Market Deeping goes to our registered waste transfer station in Bourne, where it is sorted, processed and crushed. Most of it comes back out as recycled 6F5 hardcore and aggregates. Across our operation we divert up to 99.9% of waste from landfill.
Short haulage matters in two ways. It keeps our pricing in the Deepings sharp, because lorry time is the biggest cost in grab work. And it cuts the transport emissions per load, which is part of why we hold ISO 14001 environmental certification alongside ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and FORS accreditation. You also get proper waste documentation with every load, so your duty of care is covered.
The lorry that takes your spoil away can bring stone or topsoil on the same booking. We deliver aggregates across the Deepings, including recycled 6F5 for driveway sub bases. Dig out and base stone in one visit is a common request for driveway jobs, and it saves a separate delivery charge.

With a 6-meter arm, the Grab Lorry Operator can retrieve material for locations with tight access without the need to manual load skips.
The main purpose of the BSH Recycling Grab Lorry is to remove large quantities of inert material from site.
You will need 11ft to allow our vehicles access. It will also need to be free from low hanging branches, power lines and manhole covers to prevent obstruction.
Services must be paid for at the point of hire, either by debit/credit card over the telephone or BACS payment. BSH Recycling DO NOT accept cash upon arrival.
At full extension, the grab arm can reach 6 meters to retrieve waste from hard to access locations.
If the BSH Recycling Grab Lorry is able pull alongside the obstacle, it is able to reach material over a height of approximately 10ft, however, this can be affected by additional factors.
If the material is accessible and free from obstruction, it may take approximately 15-20 minutes to load a grab lorry however this can fluctuate, depending upon the material, access and additional factors.
