Step 1: What Can Go In My Skip?

There’s often confusion over what can actually go in a mixed waste skip so here’s the list of what we’re able to process:

Step 2: Picking Your Perfect Skip Size

We understand that visualising a skip size can be tricky. That’s why we offer two convenient options to help you choose the right fit:

• Our Online Guide with Visual Reference: You can view the images and dimensions of our skips here on our website. You can judge the size by how big or small our very own Managing Director Chris Seggie is in relation to the skip size.
• See it for Yourself: Alternatively you can pop into our depots in Bourne and Peterborough and ask to see our skips in person to ensure that you make the right decision👀.

Step 3: Where can I put my skip?

The most convenient option is usually on your own driveway. This allows for easy access during filling and minimises disruption. However, there are a few things to consider:

• Driveway Suitability: Ensure your driveway can handle the weight and size of the skip you choose. The BSH Recycling team can advise you on skip sizes based on your driveway dimensions.
• Space Requirements: Leave enough space around the skip to allow for safe passage and skip collection by our team.

If driveway placement isn’t possible, here are some alternatives:

• On Your Private Property: As long as the skip remains entirely on your property (not blocking pathways or overhanging public areas), you generally don’t need a permit.

Considering a Public Highway Placement?

While less ideal, placing the skip on the public highway (e.g., the road outside your house) might be an option in some situations. However, strict regulations apply:

• Permits are Required: BSH Recycling can handle obtaining a Skip Permit from the local Highways Authority on your behalf. This process typically takes 5 full working days and incurs an additional cost.
• Public Safety: The skip placement cannot obstruct pedestrian or vehicle traffic, and proper signage must be displayed.
• Compliance is Crucial: Operating a skip on the public highway without a permit is a punishable offence.
